Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of January 31, 2022, at 4:30 pm EST.

On Monday, health officials in Spain logged 60,707 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 9.9 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 62.3% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 87 Covid-related deaths for a total of 93,225 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Toronto schools, 15% absent on Friday

TORONTO – According to data provided by school boards to the Ontario government, more than 15 percent of all staff and students at Toronto’s public schools were absent on Friday. The province’s Ministry of Education indicated that of the 385 schools on the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) that reported absence data for last Friday, 23 TDSB schools reported absences of more than 30 percent, and all but two were high schools where students were preparing for exams or taking them.

Ontario, the hospitalized dropping below 3 thousand

TORONTO – Covid-19: another 32 deaths in Ontario, bringing the total from the beginning of the pandemic to 11,444, 11% of which – 1,250 – were reported in January 2022 which thus becomes one of the most “deadly” months since beginning of the pandemic. But according to data from the Ministry of Health, hospitalizations continue to decline steadily. (more…)

Oakville trustee’s court case deferred to April 2023

TORONTO – Oakville Trustee Nancy Guzzo was before the Hamilton courts (January 28) fighting twelve counts of fraud. The matter, which has been before the courts for over one year, will have to wait until 2023 for any sort of conclusion.

Daily update of Ontario’s Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 30.6 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on January 31, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 91,134 vaccine doses on Sunday, up from 68,327 doses the day prior.
