Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of February 2, 2022, at 4:40 pm EST.

On Wednesday, health officials in the UK logged 88,085 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 17.5 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 83.8% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 534 Covid-related deaths for a total of 157,409 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Erin O’Toole ousted as Conservative leader

TORONTO – Erin O’Toole is no longer the leader of the Conservative Party. To force the now former leader of the party to the fateful step back was today the vote of no confidence by a very large majority of the members of the parliamentary group: as many as 73 deputies out of 119 expressed themselves against O’Toole and in favor of a new leadership, while only 45 mp reiterated their loyalty to the conservative leader.

Another 72 deaths in Ontario and 50 in Quebec, hospitalizations still in decline

TORONTO – Covid-19: the death toll continues to rise in Ontario and throughout Canada: today, another 72 deaths were recorded in the province, bringing the total from the beginning of the pandemic to 11,576 (the total data is recalculated by day in day with the updates of the lists of the dead), while in Quebec the victims were 50 with the total rising to 13,336. Across Canada in the past two years, the virus has killed 34,170 people.
