Amazon, first general strike
“In Italy, trade unions matter …”

[GTranslate]ROME – “In Italy the union is part of the history and the constituent path of the country: even the Seattle giant must take note”: the unions Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Assoespressi do not take a step backwards, in bargaining with Amazon, relating to employees and those who work in the procurement of logistics services.

And, for the first time, workers across the supply chain will cross their arms on Monday 22 March, for a 24-hour national general strike. Not only the delivery staff, therefore, as on previous occasions (the last on 25 February last), but also the employees of the hubs (the parcel collection points) and all the employees of Amazon FBA to whom the CCNL Logistics, Freight Transport and Shipping, of Amazon Transport Italia and of all the companies providing logistics services, handling and distribution of goods that operate for Amazon Fulfillment and Amazon Transport.

“The negotiation – explain the unions – was abruptly interrupted due to the unavailability of the employers’ association to positively address the issues raised by the union”, in particular the correct professional classification of staff, the reduction of the working hours of drivers and Covid compensation for constant pandemic operations.

The unions also denounce “Amazon’s inaction on the delivery table and the absence of answers from the American multinational in relation to the continuation of the discussion, started in January, regarding employees and those who work in logistics service contracts. Amazon manifests – they affirm – with its unacceptable behavior, the chronic unwillingness to confront the workers’ representatives in disregard of the rules provided for by the CCNL and a system of correct trade union relations. The Seattle giant must acknowledge, in spite of itself – affirm the three acronyms – that the union is part of the history and the constituent path of our country and must deal with this in Italy”. The company, in turn, replies that “what the union declared regarding the lack of confrontation is not true, so much so that two meetings were held in January”.
