Covid-19 in Ontario: only one death, positivity drops (7.6%). No deaths in Quebec

TORONTO – With the data that are probably still affected by the weekend effect, today Ontario recorded “only” 1 death related to Covid-19, which brings the total number of victims in the province, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 13,226.

611 infected people admitted to hospital, of which 147 in intensive care: 32 fewer hospitalized in 24 hours, therefore, but 2 more for intensive care compared to yesterday, even if, given Monday’s data, there were still no updates from some hospitals. The decline is however evident, given that last Monday the hospitalized were 879 with 152 of them in intensive care.

According to the latest data on hospitalizations just spent the weekend, 60 percent were hospitalized for other diseases but tested positive for Covid-19 at the time of the hospital admission test, while in intensive care only 35 percent are been held for other reasons other than Covid-19.

Ontario also recorded 547 new laboratory cases today, although it confirms this is an underestimate of the true spread of the virus due to the limit placed, since the beginning of the year, on “official” tests that are administered only to “at risk” categories. The tests processed today are 6,368 tests: the positivity rate is now at 7.6%, a sharp decline compared to 10.5% a week ago and in any case also down from that of yesterday (8.6%) . The active and known cases in Ontario are now 10,753: on Sunday they were 11,137.

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,302,443 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the province and 1,278,464 people have recovered, or about 98% of known cases.

The situation is also improving in Quebec, where today – finally – there were no deaths. The people hospitalized with the disease are 1,177 (-5: 41 hospitalizations and 46 discharges). Cases in intensive care units amounted to 33 (+4).

The province also recorded 350 new cases of coronavirus, out of a total of 8,250 tests carried out (and reserved for “at risk” categories). The results of another 185 tests were entered autonomously by citizens in the Quebec government portal: 152 were positive.

Since the start of the pandemic, the French-speaking province has registered 1,065,682 infections and 986,309 people have recovered. 63,961 cases still active, 15,412 deaths in the period 2020-2022.

Finally, 3,680 Quebec health workers are still absent from work due to Covid-19 problems.
