“Your eminence, a lot of things do not make sense”, by the Honourable Joe Volpe, brings to light the disparity between the rights afforded religious institutions and commercial enterprises in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.  The Church has protested feebly to the severe restrictions, while big box stores, supported by the Provincial Cabinet, have been vociferous and unrelenting.  The result is that, while large chain stores and outlet malls are now permitted to be open, even crowded, churches and mausoleums remain virtually shuttered.  Volpe laments the Cardinal’s inaction, as seen also in recent events surrounding Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Today Toronto enters the ‘grey area’

EnglishItalianPortugueseSpanishGermanDutchFilipinoPolishChinese (Simplified)ArabicBengaliGreekTurkishKoreanJapanesePersianRomanian TORONTO – After more than 100 days of lockdown, Toronto has moved into the gray zone of the classification introduced by the Ontario Government Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework (rules to keep Ontario safe and open). And with the partial relaxation of the restrictive measures, the order to “stay at home” in both Toronto and the Peel Region has also been lifted. “Toronto Public Health and Peel Public Health are making progress, but as their case rates remain high, they will return to the gray level for at least two weeks when the situation is revalued,” Premier Doug Ford said Friday. “This is not a return to normality – added Health Minister Christine Elliott, extinguishing enthusiasm – while we continue to vaccinate other Ontario residents, it remains essential for everyone to continue to follow public health measures and stay at home as much as possible to protect themselves, loved ones and their communities.” (more…)

PSW Free Training is a ‘historic initiative’ of the Ontario government

Muhammad Ali Bukhari, CNMNG News, Toronto

The role of ‘PSW’ or personal support workers as frontline workers in Western society is quite important. As they are engaged in the care of critically ill patients in care centers and hospitals, and they are also engaged in other community care homes, privately owned homes and government-funded long-term nursing homes. At the same time, they not only set a unique example of service but also dedicate themselves to the daily well-being of their patients. According to the Personal Support Worker HQ website, the average life expectancy in long-term care centers in Canada is 87.2 years, and many of them suffer from mental disabilities, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia. As a result, their great sacrifice is unforgettable. This example is reflected during the Corona pandemic everywhere in Canada, even in other countries. (more…)
