Wasaga Beach: 22 year old Brampton man drowns last Saturday night

The second victim of the weekend, due to a drowning accident, is a 22-year-old man from Brampton who was pulled out of the water at Wasaga Beach last Saturday night.

West Huronia OPP police were called to Wasaga Beach at 5:30 p.m. after the man, who was swimming on a “floating toy”, swam several hundred meters from the shore until he was no longer visible.

The man’s friends called 911 and started searching for the missing man. The search with the support of the police lasted about 2 hours. An OPP police helicopter noticed the body of a man near where he was last seen. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is still ongoing, and preliminary information from the police indicates that the man was a poor swimmer.  Allegedly he was not wearing a life jacket.

The police ask anyone with information about this accident to contact Det. Const. Chris Lesage at 705-429-3575.
