Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.

On Thursday, health officials in Mexico logged 20,685 new infections, numbers not seen since January. Of the cumulative 2.9 million confirmed positive cases, 78.3% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, Covid-related deaths increased by 611, brining the total number of fatalities to 242,547.
TORONTO – Ontario’s four largest education unions — Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) and the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO) — are attacking the government’s return-to-school plan. A plan, they say in unison, “incomplete and inadequate.” The accusation is that of having attempted to “create the illusion of normality” when “we are still in a pandemic”. (more…)
ROME – On the eve of entry into force of the Green Pass in Italy (from tomorrow), necessary to access restaurants, museums, cultural centers, swimming pools, gyms and to attend shows or participate in festivals (to name a few), the same document is extended to new categories, as already widely anticipated in recent days: school staff, first of all. But it will be necessary to show the “vaccination passport” also to travel on long-distance trains (excluding, however, local transport). (more…)
