Toronto lança a Toronto Youth Vaccine Engagement Strategy para chegar aos jovens vulneráveis

John Tory anunciou esta quarta-feira (23 de junho) o lançamento da Toronto Youth Vaccine Engagement Strategy, uma parceria entre a cidade de Toronto e o Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC). Em comunicado à imprensa, o presidente de Toronto disse que desde que o Ontário anunciou o alargamento da elegibilidade para os residentes com mais de 12 anos de idade “vimos uma resposta impressionante à vacinação juvenil”. Toronto launches Toronto Youth Vaccine Engagement Strategy to reach vulnerable youth

John Tory announced this Wednesday (June 23) the launch of Toronto Youth Vaccine Engagement Strategy, a partnership between the City of Toronto and the Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC). In a press release, the Mayor of Toronto said that since Ontario extended eligibility to residents over 12 years of age, “we’ve seen an impressive response to youth vaccination”.

“Project Brisa”: Toronto Police seize $61M worth of drugs, 20 people charged

Twenty arrests and the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana worth $61 million, in what Toronto police call the largest drug seizure in its history. This is the result of an investigation dubbed “Project Brisa” that lasted for six months focusing on an international drug-smuggling ring: over a thousand kilograms of drugs were transported to Canada from Mexico and California in the hidden compartments of trucks with modified trailers. Brampton man launches campaign calling for no more weed shops in the city

June 18 will mark the somber one-year anniversary of the horrific crash in Brampton that killed Karolina Ciasullo and her three innocent children. To honour the family and put an end to such deadly crashes caused by impaired drivers, 22-year old Brampton activist Cody Vatcher, spearheaded a campaign (nomoreweedshops.com) to put a freeze on pot shops opening in Brampton. Regent Park candlelight vigil remembers 215 Native Children and lost Muslim family

Toronto, June 10: More than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil at the Regent Park last night to remember the hundreds of children whose remains were found buried at a former residential school as well as four Muslims who were run down and killed in London by a truck Sunday evening in what police say was a hate-motivated attack. As comunidades de língua portuguesa em Toronto responderam em grande número ao apelo que a vice-presidente da Câmara, Ana Bailão, fez para os residentes se vacinarem contra a Covid-19.

Ao longo de sábado (5 de junho), foram muitos os moradores de Toronto, na sua maioria falantes de português, que passaram pela clínica pop-up de vacinação Covid-19, no Davenport Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre, para levar a vacina (Pfizer) ou, em alguns casos, esclarecer dúvidas sobre a vacinação em curso.

Covid-19 vaccination pop-up clinic in Davenport with strong participation from Portuguese-speaking communities

The Portuguese-speaking communities in Toronto responded in large numbers to the appeal that Deputy Mayor Ana Bailão, made for residents to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Throughout Saturday (June 5), many Toronto residents, the vast majority of whom were Portuguese speakers, stopped by the Covid-19 pop-up vaccination clinic at the Davenport Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre to take the vaccine (Pfizer) or, in some cases, clarify doubts about the ongoing vaccination. Kamloops: Another formal apology long overdue

On Sunday, Pope Francis expressed shock and sorrow after “the discovery in Canada of the remains of 215 children, pupils of the Kamloops Indian Residential School in the province of British Columbia”.

During his weekly address to the crowd in Saint Peter’s Square Sunday afternoon, the Pope said he “joins the Canadian Bishops and the whole Catholic Church in Canada in expressing his closeness to the Canadian people who have been traumatized by the shocking news.” (more…)

Um novo programa de pesquisa vai distribuir 50 000 kits de autoteste do VIH (Vírus da imunodeficiência humana) gratuitos em todo o Canadá para chegar a pessoas não diagnosticadas e colocá-las em contacto com serviços de assistência, com o objetivo de identificar fatores que afetam o acesso a testes e cuidados e, em última instância, acabar com a epidemia do VIH no Canadá.

A new research program will distribute 50,000 free HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) self-testing kits across Canada to reach people who are undiagnosed and get them connected to care, with the goal of identifying factors that affect access to testing and care and ultimately, ending Canada’s HIV epidemic.

Toronto History Museums launches new virtual Indigenous Peoples Month Programming

The official launch of Indigenous Peoples Month at Toronto History Museums, a group of 10 museums owned and operated by the City of Toronto, took place this Tuesday (June 1).

The month-long online celebration will include tours, a culinary program, a shop experience that includes products from Indigenous artists and authors, and film and dance performances by emerging and established artists.

The 76th Anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen-Gusen, an international ceremony

This year, people around the world commemorate the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen-Gusen Concentration Camp (Gusen, Austria).

Over the weekend, Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau issued a statement to participants commemorating the event on May 15 and 16. “Former prisoners, of whom only a handful are still alive, and along with them, Poland and other countries, have been consistently calling for years, for a dignified commemoration of the victims of the Gusen camp”.
