Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of August 12, 2021, at 5:15pm EST.

On Thursday, health officials in Mexico logged 22,711 new infections pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 3.0 million. Of the cumulative total, 78.6% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, Covid-related deaths increased by 727, bringing the total number of fatalities to 246,203.

Canada, 22 million unused vaccines

TORONTO – From the desperate search for vaccines against Covid-19 to having millions of them in freezers throughout the country. Canada, it would seem, does not like half measures. Data on deliveries, distribution and injections of vaccines provided by Health Canada and the provinces show that nearly 22 million doses have been delivered to Canada but not yet used. This includes a national “reserve” of nearly 10 million doses and over 11.7 million doses provided to provincial and territorial governments that have yet to be administered.  (more…)

MP Schulte undeterred by health issues

The federal government appears poised to call for an election during a pandemic. No matter when that call comes, political party members and their teams stand at the ready.

The situation is no different for the Honourable Deb Schulte, Member of Parliament for King-Vaughan and Minister of Seniors. In anticipation of that call to election, the Corriere Canadese spoke with Minister Schulte to address some key issues for Canadians.
