Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of November 23, 2021, at 4:30 pm EST.

On Tuesday, health officials in Spain logged 6,777 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 5.1 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 96.2% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 34 Covid-related deaths for a total of 87,866 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Ontario: Covid-19 cases on the rise, ten schools closed

TORONTO – The number of Ontario schools closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak has reached double digits for the first time since the beginning of this school year. Following the decision to transfer the students of Grenoble Public School, which is located in the Flemingdon Park neighborhood, to distance learning as of today, 10 schools in Ontario are now closed. The decision to suspend face-to-face classes was taken after at least 15 students tested positive for the virus within a few days. (more…)

New infections in Ontario, increasing average: + 16%

TORONTO – Slight drop in new Covid-19 cases in Ontario today: the province recorded 613 new infections, up from 627 on Monday and 741 on Sunday. The seven-day moving average is now 675, an increase of 16.5% compared to a week ago, when it was 579. 20,000 tests processed today in Ontario, for a positive rate of 3.1% . (more…)

Optometrists resume eye exams for OHIP-insured patients

Negotiations resume between Ontario optometrists and the provincial government following failed attempts to arrive at a resolution in the eye care crisis. As a “sign of good faith” during the negotiation process, the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO) have resumed eye care services for OHIP-insured patients, including children and seniors.
