Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of December 23, 2021, at 4:10 pm EST.

On Thursday, health officials in Russia logged 25,667 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 10.3 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases, 88.5% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 1,002 Covid-related deaths for a total of 301,271 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Another 29 thousand new vaccine appointments in Toronto and York

TORONTO – The race for the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine continues unstoppable. Telephone lines to make reservations have been hot since the province started bookings. And so today the city of Toronto made available from January 1st to 3 another 14 thousand new appointments at its clinics.

Never so many infections: 16% positivity in Ontario, nearly ten thousand cases in Quebec

Escape to nowhere this holiday season

Typically, the holidays are a time for celebration, for gathering with family and friends, and a good opportunity for travel. However, the rise in Covid cases and the new Omicron variant has prompted several countries to reinstate certain restrictions causing many families to cancel their holiday travel plans.

The tourism industry is one of the hardest-hit sectors since the start of the pandemic. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) suggests that the economic strain caused by Covid-19 will likely cost the global tourism sector nearly $2 trillion (USD) in lost revenue in 2021.

Daily update of Ontario’s Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 26.1 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on December 23, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 253,258 vaccine doses on Wednesday, up from 230,516 doses the day prior.
