Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of March 10, 2022, at 4:30 pm EST.

On Thursday, health officials in Italy logged 54,230 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 13.2 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 91.5% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 136 Covid-related deaths for a total of 156,493 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Revocation of masks, controversy erupts

TORONTO – From March 21 in Ontario it is no longer mandatory to wear a mask. The breakthrough was announced Wednesday by the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Kieran Moore. But, to wonder if this is a good idea are many. Virologists, teachers, simple residents believe that the measure is premature.

Pig heart transplant recipient dies two months after procedure

Two months following the ground-breaking experiment, the first person to receive the first genetically modified pig heart transplant has died. The patient, 57-year-old David Bennett, passed away on March 8, 2022. (more…)

Daily update of Ontario’s Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 31.8 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on March 10, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 14,705 vaccine doses on Wednesday, up from 13,764 doses the day prior.

Deaths from or with Covid-19? Ontario and Quebec review all data

TORONTO – Another 20 deaths were added today to the tragic “Covid-count” in Ontario. But the total, since the beginning of the pandemic, is not 12,638 (12,618 deaths until yesterday, plus today’s deaths), but 12,149. The provincial health authorities, in fact, have decided to review all the data, removing from the total count the “suspicious” deaths: those not directly attributable only to Covid-19. And from a first analysis, there would be 489 previous deaths not attributable to that category. (more…)
