Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of March 30, 2022, at 4:15 pm EST.

On Wednesday, health officials in Greece logged 22,451 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 3.0 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 90.7% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 62 Covid-related deaths for a total of 27,454 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Covid-19, Ontario in the midst of the sixth wave

TORONTO – There are no doubts. Ontario is now in the midst of a sixth wave of pandemic. This was stated by the director of the Covid-19 Science Advisory Table of Ontario Peter Juni. “You only have to look at our wastewater to understand that this is indeed the case,” he said, “the highly contagious sub-variant of Omicron BA.2 cannot be blamed for the increase in the number of cases in Ontario that is instead linked to having thrown caution to the wind.”

The virus circulates more: almost 20 thousand active cases in Ontario

TORONTO – Hospitalizations from and with Covid-19 in Ontario continue to grow: today in the province’s hospitals there were 778 people, down from 790 yesterday, even a sharp increase compared to 611 a week ago. 165 patients in intensive care (92 with ventilators to breathe), the same number as yesterday. As for infections, 2,814 were recorded today but, due to the limitation of texts to “at risk” categories only, according to experts that the real number of infections could be about 10 times that figure.  (more…)

Sault Ste. Marie: A community with strong Italian roots

The provincial electoral district of Sault Ste. Marie (the Sault), situated in Northern Ontario, is about a 700 km drive northwest from Toronto. The constituency is located at the southern tip of Lake Superior along St. Mary’s River, just north of the international boundary between Canada and the US. It is where the largest of the Great Lakes flows into Lake Huron. The St. Marie’s International Bridge is the only fixed link crossing between both countries and a key trade route for Canadian and American markets.
