TORONTO – A demonstration is scheduled for tonight, Wednesday 13 September, starting at 8pm, at the Marian Shrine located at 3100 Weston Road in Toronto, in defense of the place which is frequented by thousands of faithful but which is at risk after being purchased from a real estate company. The premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, is also expected to attend the protest. Some city councilors will be present, including Anthony Perruzza (author of a motion in defense of the Marian Shrine), some trustees of the Toronto Catholic District School Board and several political personalities.
TORONTO – It no longer just a community issue: the political class is also working to save the Marian Shrine “Marian Shrine of Gratitude”. In the last several weeks, we have reported the multiple on-site supporting presences of Councillor Anthony Perruzza and MPP Tom Racekovic who also sent a letter to the Heritage Minister Michael Ford. We also noted the unanimous TCDSB Motion of support.
TORONTO – Non solo la comunità: anche la classe politica si sta adoperando per salvare il Santuario Mariano “Marian Shrine of Gratitude”. Anthony Perruzza, assecondato da James Pasternak, ha presentato una mozione che ha come intento quello di far dichiarare il terreno sul quale sorge il Santuario un sito patrimonio sulla base dell’Ontario Heritage Act. L’eventuale designazione proteggerebbe gli edifici siti al 3100 di Weston Road, a Toronto, dall’eventuale demolizione. Quello di Perruzza è il primo passo formale in questo senso: la mozione punta a tagliare i tempi e garantire alla questione una corsia preferenziale per la discussione in Consiglio Comunale…
Il senatore Loffreda scrive della necessità che il governo riduca le proprie spese rispetto al servizio pubblico e trovi modi per rendere la burocrazia federale più produttiva ed efficiente nella fornitura dei suoi servizi e programmi ai canadesi. E sottolinea la necessità che i parlamentari ritengano il governo responsabile dei suoi piani di spesa.
