“Dreams”, New Film about Italian Rap Artist

TORONTO – In 1972, musical icon Adriano Celentano released a gibberish track titled “Prisencolinensinainciusol”. English language songs ruled the charts in Italy during the 70s, and musicians like the Jackson 5, Abba and the Beegees charmed Italians as much as their native audiences. As somewhat of a social experiment, Celentano set out to prove that Italians would sheepishly listen to anything that sounded English – and he did so by releasing a song whose lyrics mimicked American English. He was right. The fake English song went to number 1 on French, German and Italian charts.

The Rules of Love, Italian Style

TORONTO – In 2006, screenwriter Marco Gianfreda wrote a short film Tana Libera Tutti, in which a six-year-old boy yearns to be noticed by a classmate named Flavia. That film earned him a David Di Donatello nomination in the cortometraggio category, and a promising platform from which to launch his screenwriting career. Fast forward almost 20 years later and Gianfreda is now directing his first film, Tre Regole Infallibili, which centers around an adolescent boy courting a girl – yet again – named Flavia.

Thriller set against the Italian Lockdown

TORONTO – Stefano Sardo, co-writer of the Roberto Baggio biopic The Divine Ponytail, is releasing his second film as a director with Muori di Lei. It stars Riccardo Scamarcio, Maria Chiara Giannetta and Mariela Garriga in an erotic thriller set against the recent pandemic lockdown – though Sardo insists it’s not a film about the lockdown.
