“La Chimera” brings the invisible to life

TORONTO – It’s no coincidence that “La Chimera’s” cast includes the illustrious Isabella Rossellini, of Neo-Realist royalty – Roberto Rossellini being her father and the father of the artistic movement [Neo-realism] in film. The quest to construct films naturalistically began in the 40s which saw Italian filmmakers, initiated by Rossellini’s “Roma Citta Aperta”, flauntingly avoid the artifice of studio-made films with an almost cultish dedication to realism.

In ‘Finalmente l’Alba’ the Magic of Cinecittà

TORONTO – Opening night at ICFF screened Saverio Costanzo’s period drama “Finalmente l’Alba” – one of seven Italian films that competed at the 80th Annual Venice Film Festival. Its trademark Italian nostalgia and tragedian romance was perfectly enveloped by the Distillery’s historical aesthetic. Hundreds of overhanging lights twinkled like stars over the Distillery’s main square, emitting a soft ambient glow – perfect for the evening’s overcast.

Jazz by the Colosseum

ROME – The 2024 JAZZ & IMAGE Festival next to Rome’s Colosseum has just kicked off. But it’s not just jazz and it’s not just a festival. It’s also a reminder that Rome’s Colosseum was built 1,944 years ago during a glorious Roman era, despite being muddied by its violent conquests and gory spectacles.
