Household food insecurity is growing in Canada: a research by UofT

TORONTO – Based on data from 55,000 families collected by Statistics Canada’s Canadian Income Survey (CIS) in 2022, the University of Toronto has developed a report – entitled “Household Food Insecurity in Canada” and published on November 19 – from which it emerges that from 2021 to 2022, the prevalence of household food insecurity in the ten provinces increased from 15.9% to 17.8%. In 2022, 2.7 million households, or 6.9 million people, including nearly 1.8 million children under the age of 18, lived in households that had experienced some level of food insecurity in the previous twelve months.  (more…)

A botched Coup attempt at York Catholic District School Board: what an embarrassment

TORONTO – From my perspective, York Region reflects a contemporary Canada: solid values imbedded in the Constitution to guide new people in a new land as they move upward. The Corriere Canadese has a special interest in its affairs: 31% of its citizens profess adherence to Catholicism; 145,000 residents self-identify as of Italian origin (the vast majority of them send their children to Catholic schools); ethnic Italians – for better or for worse – are at the “cutting edge” of the leadership required to bring diverse peoples together “for the sake of the whole”. Singh attacks Trudeau but continues to support the government

VICTORIA – NDP leader Jagmeet Singh continues his political “double game”, dividing himself between the role of “crutch” of Justin Trudeau’s government and “fierce opponent” (but only apparently) of the same executive. Yet another act of the comedy featuring Jagmeet Singh as the leading actor in the political theater was performed on Sunday in Victoria, British Columbia.   (more…)
