Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024, 500,000 in 2025 and 500,000 in 2026: these are the immigration quotas announced in Parliament on Wednesday by federal minister Marc Miller who spoke of “levels that allow us to introduce the skills and talents we need to fill job gaps and ensure Canada’s economic prosperity, help families reunite and remain a leader in refugee resettlement”. TORONTO – I suppose we all need to sprinkle a little water in our wine. A gentleman daily reader of our paper was offering some laudatory observations on why our publication has everything any informed citizen would want to read about Canada, Italy, Ontario, Toronto and so on. Then he offered some “constructive criticism”.
TORONTO – 40% of Canadians have no intention of getting the updated coronavirus vaccine: this is what emerges from a survey conducted by Ispos for Global News. The survey, conducted between October 20 and 23 on a sample of 1,000 Canadians over the age of 18, was released today and finds that of this 40%, 45% said they didn’t think it was worth doing the vaccine, 23% expressed concern about the safety of the injection while 7% said they were openly against the anti-Covid vaccine. TORONTO – Ontario Premier Doug Ford met face-to-face with Hamilton developer Sergio Manchia in 2021 to discuss removing his land from the Greenbelt in 2021, documents cited by the CBC reveal, which contradict what Ford himself had previously stated, that he has “no recollection” of meeting Manchia, nor was he aware of the proposed changes before 2022, when the removal of some land from the Greenbelt to make it buildable began.
