New permanent residents: here are the targets

TORONTO – 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024, 500,000 in 2025 and 500,000 in 2026: these are the immigration quotas announced in Parliament on Wednesday by federal minister Marc Miller who spoke of “levels that allow us to introduce the skills and talents we need to fill job gaps and ensure Canada’s economic prosperity, help families reunite and remain a leader in refugee resettlement”.  (more…)

40% of Canadians will not get the vaccine

TORONTO – 40% of Canadians have no intention of getting the updated coronavirus vaccine: this is what emerges from a survey conducted by Ispos for Global News. The survey, conducted between October 20 and 23 on a sample of 1,000 Canadians over the age of 18, was released today and finds that of this 40%, 45% said they didn’t think it was worth doing the vaccine, 23% expressed concern about the safety of the injection while 7% said they were openly against the anti-Covid vaccine.  (more…)

Greenbelt, Ford’s position is even more complicated

TORONTO – Ontario Premier Doug Ford met face-to-face with Hamilton developer Sergio Manchia in 2021 to discuss removing his land from the Greenbelt in 2021, documents cited by the CBC reveal, which contradict what Ford himself had previously stated, that he has “no recollection” of meeting Manchia, nor was he aware of the proposed changes before 2022, when the removal of some land from the Greenbelt to make it buildable began.  (more…)
