Italian Film Explores Judas’ Betrayal

TORONTO – Shot over a period of four weeks in 2024, Giulio Base’s Il Vangelo di Giuda is being prepared for a theatrical release by Milano’s Eagle Pictures. The film stars several notable actors such as Giancarlo Giannini, Rupert Everett and Paz Vega, and takes a novel storytelling approach in its depiction of Judas Iscariot’s life and demise. The film takes the perspective of Judas, who as he’s about to die [famously by hanging], reflects on the events and mission which led to his infamous betrayal of Jesus. 

The Art of Stereotyping Italians

TORONTO – Actors Andrew Rannells and Nick Kroll appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show last month to talk about their new horror movie I Don’t Understand You – a film they shot in Lazio in 2024. The plot follows a married couple, who, while vacationing in Italy, attempt to adopt a child without any knowledge of the Italian language or transportation. While on Fallon’s Tonight Show, the two “joked” about their time in Italy and about the local culture, mocking the Italian crew’s work ethic and razzing Italians about their [lack of] food culture while doing so. 

Morrone revisits Corleone in The Sicilian

TORONTO – Not long after Michele Morrone appeared on “Belve”, where he expressed his grievances about the Italian Film Industry, the 365 Actor was cast in the new movie The Sicilian. The film is set to begin shooting in Sicily and Canada this September, with Swedish filmmaker Amir Chamdin directing. During his interview with Belve’s Francesca Fagnani, Morrone griped about being left out of Italian Cinema due to [what he believes is] a combination of politics and snobbery. Specifically, that he didn’t attend prestigious acting schools and that his political views don’t lean left.

Cinetourism Continues to fuel Matera

TORONTO – Since Carlo Lizzani’s 1949 documentary Nel Mezzogiorno Qualcosa è Cambiato (Something Has Changed in the South), nearly 60 major films have been shot in and around Matera’s 10,000-year-old cave dwellings – known as the Sassi. And now the sixth season of The Chosen, a very popular miniseries about the mission of Jesus of Nazareth, is being filmed in the aptly named “City of Stones”.
