Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Covid-19 hospitalizations, Ontario is again above one thousand: today in the hospitals of the province there were in fact 1,091 patients against 857 just 24 hours earlier. An impressive surge, which has jumped the increase in hospitalizations in the last seven days to + 38%. 173 people in intensive care, compared to 168 the day before today. (more…)
TORONTO – Hospitalizations of Covid inpatients continue to increase in Ontario: today there were 807 people with the virus admitted to hospitals in the province, an increase from 778 yesterday and especially from 661 just a week ago (+ 22%) . Today’s is the highest number of hospitalizations since March 4, when 821 people with the virus were hospitalized. In intensive care there are 166 positive inpatients (yesterday 165, a week ago 165). EDMONTON – 652 new cases of Covid-19 in Alberta and, above all, 38 deaths which bring the total number of victims, in the province, from the beginning of the pandemic to 2,901. These are the data from Wednesday, which for the number of deaths represent a negative record: the figure in fact equals that recorded on 12 January for the majority of deaths reported in a single day. EDMONTON – The Covid situation in Alberta remains of total emergency. Also on Friday, the last day on which the data were disclosed, the province recorded over 1,200 new infections: 1,256 to be precise (and 16 deaths) against the 1,254 (and 10 deaths) of Thursday and the 1,263 (and 26 deaths) of Wednesday. Most of the people who died on Friday were between 70 and 80, two in their fifties, one in their sixties, another in their nineties. In total, 2,830 Alberta residents have died of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. (more…)
TORONTO – The new projections of the Ontario Science Advisory Table are bound to cool enthusiasm. Not only will it still take time to defeat Covid, but if more than 85% of the population is not vaccinated, this autumn we could face another lockdown. (more…)
