Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – A team of top public officials said today that foreign attempts to interfere in the 2021 federal election did not affect the outcome. Thus, there would indeed have been foreign interference in Canadian federal elections. Whether they then had concrete effects in the results, it’s another matter. (more…)
TORONTO – He’s the “crutch” of Trudeau government, but obviously cannot support it on this: even the leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh (in the pic above, from his Twitter profile – @theJagmeetSingh), is asking for the opening of a public inquiry into the (alleged) Chinese interference in the 2019 federal elections, thus joining the call of several high-profile officials. TORONTO – Emergency calls were not guaranteed during the Rogers “black out” two weeks ago. A very serious thing. An issue that the company, Rogers Communications Inc., is “trying to remedy” to ensure that emergency calls can always be made and that “no future disruption cancels cellular and internet services anymore”. TORONTO – The virus does not give up in Ontario: despite the comforting data of the last few weeks, today’s numbers show a growing with another 20 deaths and 779 patients with Covid-19 in the hospitals of the province, down from 914 last week but in sharp increase compared to 693 on Monday and 684 on Sunday. Of the 779 patients currently in hospital, 246 are in intensive care, a number down from the 278 on last Tuesday and also on Monday’s 249. (more…)

TORONTO – The whole world is on alert. The new Omicron variant of Covid-19, first identified in South Africa, has been classified as “worrying” by the World Health Organization. From just over 200 new cases confirmed per day in recent weeks, South Africa has seen the number of new daily cases rise to more than 3,200 on Saturday, most in Gauteng. (more…)
TORONTO – Three long years but now the nightmare is over. A few hours after the release of Meng Wanzhou, China boarded a plane bound for Calgary Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig Canadian citizens detained in China since 2018. Spavor and Kovrig have returned to Canada after nearly three years in prison in China for espionage. The ‘two Michaels’ boarded just hours after the British Columbia court dismissed the extradition case to the US against Meng Wanzhou. (more…)
TORONTO – The third week of the election campaign continues along the lines of the second one. The Conservative Party, having leapfrogged the Liberals in their nationwide voting intentions and consolidated the lead, now also overtakes the distribution of seats in the House of Commons based on the latest projections. To certify the reversal of the balance of power also in the individual districts is the new elaboration presented by 338canada.com, the specialized portal that aggregates and analyzes the latest demoscopic surveys carried out on a national scale. Right now the party led by Erin O’Toole, strong of 33.5 percent of voting intentions, should win at least 142 electoral districts, with a prospect of growth of another 37 constituencies. (more…)
Twenty-year-old Nathaniel Veltman appeared in court yesterday via video link accused of intentionally running over and killing a Muslim family in London. The 20-year-old who has so far been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, is now also accused of terrorism. (more…)
TORONTO – By the end of June, the vaccination campaign in Ontario will also be extended to young people, from 12 to 17 years of age. Ontario’s Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, however, was keen to clarify that the vaccine against Covid-19 will not be mandatory for this age range. (more…)
