Many challenges ahead for the “three amigos”

TORONTO – Illegal immigration, protectionism, industry and commerce… there are many topics on the plate at the meeting between the so-called “Three Amigos”: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US President Joe Biden and Canadian President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will meet during the next week for a trilateral summit in Mexico City and will discuss a series of hot topics, some burning ones such as the worsening of the migration crisis that Biden has to face on the border between the United States and Mexico and which, in some way, also involves Canada.  (more…)

The challenges of filling bellies as food prices soar

 

Prepping for the holidays means heading to the store to stock up on groceries. Based on provincial capacity limits, Ontario families could be entertaining up to 25 people in their homes this holiday season. With food prices on the rise, that grocery bill will be pricey. Heading into the new year, shoppers will be paying more to feed their families.

According to Canada’s Food Price Report 2022 (released December 9), an average family of four is expected to pay up to $14,767 for food in 2022. That represents an increase of about $966 from the total annual food cost in 2021, an overall increase between 5% and 7%. (more…)

From Rome to Glasgow, all the challenges of the international community

TORONTO – All roads led to Italy for the 2-day G20 summit meeting this year. US President Joe Biden had to put on hold domestic issues just to be in Rome for this summit. Top of the agenda was climate change. Prince Charles addressed the leaders of attending countries. From Rome, participants proceeded to Glasgow, Scotland, for the UN COP26 meeting. In both meetings, activists ensured that their voices are heard by world leaders. These meetings are unique because Covid safety protocols are in place. I remember when G8-G20 was held in Toronto having experienced challenges covering the event.  (more…)
