Bangladesh among most polluted countries in the world

Relying on Swiss IQAir’s information platform, the 2020 World Air Quality Report shows, South and East Asian locations emerge as the most polluted globally. Among them Bangladesh, China, India, and Pakistan share 49 of the 50 of the most polluted cities worldwide, Dhaka as second worst ranking, while wildfires and dust storms linked to increasing global temperatures as part of climate change as well as agricultural practices.

Afghanistan, the Pope: “I pray that many countries will protect those seeking a new life”

 

VATICAN CITY – “Help the Afghans”. The call comes from St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. It was launched by Pope Francis, after the Sunday Angelus. “In these troubled times that see Afghans seeking refuge – said the Pontiff – , I pray for the most vulnerable among them. I pray that many countries will welcome and protect those seeking a new life. I pray also for the internally displaced persons and that they may receive assistance and the necessary protection. May young Afghans receive education, an essential good for human development. And may all Afghans, whether at home, in transit, or in host countries, live with dignity, in peace and fraternity with their neighbours”.  (more…)

Canada donates almost 18 million vaccines to the poorest countries

Canada is donating 17.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine to help immunize people in low- and middle-income countries. This was announced by the Minister for International Development Karina Gould and the Minister of Public Services and Procurement Anita Anand: the doses, they said, are part of the federal government’s advance purchase agreement with the company and will be distributed through COVAX. Canada will donate 13 million Covid-19 vaccine doses to developing countries

TORONTO – The joint effort of the G7 countries will be aimed at ending the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022. This was reiterated today in the final communiqué of the summit in Cornwall. “The Covid-19 pandemic – reads the final message of G7 leaders – will not be under control anywhere until it is everywhere. In an interconnected world, global health and threats to health security do not respect borders.” (more…)

The United States has loosened travel restrictions to 60 countries, including Canada


In the face of declining Covid disease statistics around the world, the United States has decided to make it easier for its citizens to travel to nearly 60 countries.

The US Department of State decided to lower the so-called “travel warnings” for travel to many countries, including among others Canada, Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. (more…)
