TORONTO – Despite the favorable Covid indicators in Ontario and the relaxation of the obligation to wear masks, we must not be taken by easy enthusiasm.
TORONTO – Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua announced he will not be seeking re-election in the Municipal election later this year (October 24). He delivered the message at the annual Vaughan Mayor’s Gala Wednesday evening at the Universal Event Space in Vaughan. An area commonly referred to as “the Mountain” by locals, the provincial district of Hamilton Mountain gets its name from its location to the Niagara Escarpment. The riding is situated about 5 km inland from the south-western end of Lake Ontario. It encompasses part of the City of Hamilton and an area south-easterly from the start of the Escarpment. (more…)
TORONTO – This latest wave of Covid-19 seems to be affecting more children. Visits to hospital emergency rooms by children with severe symptoms are uphill since the pandemic began two years ago. In the last two weeks, 89 children have been hospitalized across the province of Ontario. And the pressure on the Ford government to restore the obligation to wear masks, following this recent spike in infections related to children, is growing. “We’re seeing guys who have a high fever. Children for whom it is painful to breathe, others who need oxygen supplementation,” said Dr. Brett Belchetz who serves in a Toronto emergency room.
TORONTO – “The time has come to review the capacity limits. After a plateau in the number of infections, the province has returned to the fourth wave of the pandemic”. (more…)
TORONTO – A new week is starting but the scenario is the same as the previous one: Canada split in two with Ontario and Quebec holding the bump of the fourth wave, while Alberta and Saskatchewan are in full emergency. (more…)
CALGARY – “We are in big trouble”. “We are in trouble up to our necks”: with this short sentence Dr. Joe Vipond, a doctor in an emergency room in Calgary and co-founder of Masks4Canada, photographed the current situation. With the number of cases on the rise in Ontario, Alberta and B.C., the doctor fears that – unless governments act to stop it – this fourth wave of Covid-19 may be worse than the first. (more…)
TORONTO – For the fourth consecutive day, Ontario recorded more than 600 new cases of Covid-19 today: to be precise, 639 (zero deaths). It is true that the number is lower than on Sunday (722 cases), but it still marks a significant increase compared to the 526 infections reported last Monday. And it is also true that the tests carried out were less: 20,000, compared to 23,075 on Sunday. The seven-day average is now 580, up nearly 24% over the week and a whopping 104% over two weeks ago. But transmission growth has slowed: in early August, cases doubled every eight days. However, according to Ontario’s scientific table, every 100 people who contract the virus will transmit it on average to 119 other people, and cases will double every 22 days. (more…)
TORONTO – They had just said it yesterday and so it is: Ontario has arrived in the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, as today’s data confirm. 513 new cases in one day. A number that exceeds, for the first time since mid-June, the 500 daily infections, and which marks a daily increase compared to Wednesday, when 324 reports were recorded (321 on Tuesday, 325 on Monday and 423 on Sunday). In any case, more than double the 213 cases reported a week ago. Only on June 13, a higher number was registered than today: 530 cases. The seven-day average is now 375, up sharply from 332 a day ago and 198 a week ago. (more…)
TORONTO – The fourth wave of the pandemic? It has already begun. And it mainly affects the unvaccinated, even if – in some cases – those who have already received the vaccine get sick as well.
