Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – The challenge is now before the Superior Court of Justice where hearings began today for controversial Bill 124, the law passed in 2019 that limits salary increases to one percent per year for Ontario public service employees and general public sector workers, including nurses and teachers.
TORONTO – The NDP announces war on the government of Doug Ford who today approved the motion to avoid public hearings regarding legislation that would allow patients in hospital who need long-term care to be transferred to LTC without their consent.
TORONTO – The Covid-19 Science Advisory Table will be dissolved on 6 September. Public Health Ontario is planning to replace the scientific advisory board with a new, smaller group that will be “less independent.” This is what we read in a public health Ontario memo obtained by The Canadian Press.
MONTREAL – The sos launched in Montreal during the 24th International AIDS Summit 2022 did not fall on deaf ears: Federal Minister of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos, said the government will invest $ 17.9 million to increase the access to HIV testing in remote communities and among hard-to-reach populations. But activists involved in the fight against AIDS say the announcement “must be followed by more actions”. →
TORONTO – Ontario Premier Doug Ford presented his cabinet to Ontario’s 43rd Parliament. Few news, many reconfirmations. The new cabinet includes seven women – down from nine in the previous one – out of a total of over 30 appointed (including attorneys general). Ford has also given a role to his nephew Michael (in the pic), a rookie MPP. Lisa MacLeod and Ross Romano are out.
