OTTAWA – Over 1,100 people already evacuated and the promise of “tireless” work to continue ripping people out of conflict-ravaged Afghanistan “as long as it is safe to do so”. This, in a nutshell, is what emerged from today’s press conference which saw four ministries of the Trudeau government intervene on the Afghan question. Canada continues its push to close the vaccination gap in certain populations. Even as roughly 80% of eligible Canadians have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, medical experts caution a slow down in that rate leaves a significant gap for variants to take hold.
Covid-19’s massive disruption to employment has had a significant impact on the economy. What is troubling is that women appear to be more affected by pandemic-related changes in the labour market than men. Ontario aims to change that.
On June 25, the provincial government announced new measures, through the creation of Ontario’s Task Force on Women and the Economy to help break down barriers women face in the economy.
A strong workforce in Canada is crucial for a prosperous economic recovery. The skilled trades play a vital role in that recovery. The Government of Canada is investing nearly $890,000 in the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades (CCAT, in Woodbridge), to help train, support and maintain a qualified skilled trades workforce. PONTREMOLI (Massa Carrara) – She gave birth in prison, at the age of 17, helped by police officers who became obstetricians. And everything went well: the girl is fine, the newborn – a girl weighing no less than 3 kilos and 200 grams – as well. A beautiful story, with a happy ending, within the walls of the Women’s Penal Institute of Pontremoli, a village in the province of Massa Carrara, in Italy, which mainly young female prisoners of foreign origin.
