Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Twenty-five thousand “affordable” homes: this is one of the priorities of the new mayor of Toronto, Olivia Chow (in the pic above, from Twitter – @MayorOliviaChow), who today presented what she called a “first step” in her attempt to build, indeed, 25,000 homes to rent at more affordable prices, in addition to those already planned for the city. TORONTO – The Canadian housing market continues to show signs of cooling. Last month the volume of home sales fell by more than a third compared to last year’s boom periods, and prices have also fallen by almost 10% since then.
TORONTO – More than 56 million inhabitants or, perhaps, even 74. In 2068, the Canadian population could reach these figures according to a report by Statistics Canada published on Monday, which also highlights how this phenomenon (due to the aging of population – thanks to the increase in life expectancy – and to strong immigration) will have large – and negative – dimensions for pensions, health care and housing needs.
