Given the complexities associated with the Italian electoral system, especially as it pertains to becoming elected as a representative of the Italian Diaspora in the Italian Parliament, many random factors have to fall into place to secure election, not least of which is the position of the party whose colours in the electoral premises of the electorate in Italy.

TORONTO – 750 publications in more than 65 languages, which exceed 1,000 if one includes radio and television stations (covering 111 languages) set up a display booth at the Canadian National Exhibition: perhaps in no country in the world there is so much variety. And if it’s true that the official languages in Canada are English and French, it is equally true that those really spoken in everyday life is the only growing linguistic demographic among all Canadians. None excluded.
TORONTO – 750 publications in more than 65 languages: the ethnic press plays an important role in the Canadian society and the NEPMCC (National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada) unites it all across the Country, as well represented today at the CNE, the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Publishers and journalist from every language media not in English or French gathered together to speak about the state of ethnic press in Canada and to promote their newspapers. During the event, Thomas S. Saras, President of NEPMCC, talked about the goals of the organization and the Honourable Joe Volpe, publisher of the Italian newspaper Corriere Canadese, underlined the force of the ethnic media in a Country where 23% of people speaks languages other than English and French.
After the speeches, officials cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the NEMCC booth at the CNE (in the pic below).

TORONTO – Hardly on the bus or in the subway you will hear people of the same origin speak in English: among them, Japanese people will always continue to speak in Japanese, Chinese people in Chinese, Italians in Italian and so on. To confirm what is already heard every day around the city, it comes a survey conducted by Leger for the Association for Canadian Studies, from which we see that the vast majority of Canadians report a strong attachment to the main language, the native one, much more than other indicators of identity, including the Country they call home: Canada. Controversy, disbelief and confusion. One can describe with these three words the reaction generated by the removal by the Ontario government of a section of the mathematics curriculum that makes “reference to racism and colonialism”. The government did not want to confirm when the changes were made but it seems that these followed the publication of recent articles in newspapers that highlighted a section that refers to the content, context and importance of mathematics as subjective. The completion of the new Kipling Transit Hub reinforces and modernizes the local infrastructure that will serve the East Mississauga and West Toronto areas.

Toronto will receive $360 million in funding from the federal and provincial governments to move forward with the purchase of dozens of new streetcars. The city had already approved the purchase of 13 new streetcars from the Alstom plant in Thunder Bay in October, but now it will be able to move ahead with the option to purchase another 47, with delivery of the vehicles starting in 2023. Primeira fase terá duração de três meses e inclui dez caixotes do lixo de rua
A cidade de Toronto inicia esta semana um projeto piloto para testar a recolha de dejetos caninos em caixotes do lixo de rua. A primeira fase do piloto terá duração de três meses e inclui dez caixotes do lixo adjacentes a parques e em áreas com alta concentração de cães.
Segundo a cidade, um compartimento em cada um dos caixotes piloto foi convertido para aceitar o cocó de cães. Esses compartimentos são etiquetados com autocolantes e só devem ser usados para colocar as fezes de cães.
Um caixote piloto pode ser encontrado perto de cada um dos seguintes locais:
- 1989 Queen St. E.
- 125 Homewood Ave.
- 10 Niagara St. (three bins)
- 45 Dunfield Ave.
- 55 Rosehill Ave.
- 88 Broadway Ave.
- 150 Kilgour Rd.
- Lakeshore Blvd E. & Northern Dancer Blvd.
Em comunicado de imprensa, o presidente da Câmara, John Tory, incentiva os residentes da cidade a usar os novos caixotes quando saírem à rua com os seus amigos de quatro patas. E sublinha que este tipo de iniciativa “é um ótimo exemplo de como a nossa cidade está sempre a procurar maneiras inovadoras para facilitar a vida dos nossos residentes”, ao mesmo tempo que contribui para a limpeza das ruas urbanas.
O projeto piloto é uma resposta às observações de campo e auditorias de resíduos, que mostram um aumento constante na colocação de dejetos caninos em caixotes do lixo. Na primavera de 2020, uma auditoria identificou 45 por cento dos resíduos (por peso) em caixotes do lixo de rua como material orgânico e 99 por cento desse material orgânico como dejetos caninos.
O objetivo do piloto é ver se a recolha de dejetos caninos em caixotes do lixo de rua é viável e pode ajudar o município a desviar mais material orgânico do aterro sanitário.
Se a primeira fase do piloto for bem-sucedida, a iniciativa será alargada para 30 caixotes do lixo por mais três meses e, depois, para 100 caixotes por um período de mais seis meses.
No caso de caixotes do lixo de rua sem compartimento para dejetos caninos, a cidade está a pedir aos moradores que os coloquem no lixo ou levem para casa e, de seguida, coloquem no caixote verde. Os dejetos caninos nunca devem ser colocados nos caixotes de reciclagem, sendo que qualquer saco pode ser usado para apanhar as fezes de cães; não precisa ser compostável.
