TORONTO – L’idillio Canada-immigrati è finito. Lo dicono i numeri. L’Institute for Canadian Citizenship afferma infatti che i dati di Statistics Canada indicano un calo del 30% nell’adozione della cittadinanza dal 2001. Vediamo in che misura: nel 2021, solo il 45,7% dei residenti permanenti che risiedevano in Canada da meno di dieci anni è diventato cittadino. TORONTO – The idyll between Canada and immigrants is over. The numbers say it. In fact, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship says that Statistics Canada data indicate a 30% drop in the adoption of citizenship since 2001. Let’s see to what extent: in 2021, only 45.7% of permanent residents who resided in Canada from less than ten years became a citizen. A drop, compared to 60% in 2016 and 75.1% in 2001. (more…)

Danielle Smith is the UCP’s new leader and Alberta’s next premier. After a night of delays – the vote counts came hard – she won on the sixth and final ballot, defeating her closest challenger Travis Toews, former minister under outgoing UCP leader and premier, Jason Kenney: the result was 53.77 per cent of the votes to her and 46.23 per cent to Toews. Brian Jean, Rebecca Schulz, Todd Loewen, Rajan Sawhney and Leela Aheer were all eliminated in earlier rounds.

TORONTO – Il conto alla rovescia per il voto del prossimo giugno è già partito. A dare il via alla “campagna elettorale non ufficiale” è stato ieri il Discorso dal Trono tenuto a Queen’s Park dalla vice governatrice Elizabeth Dowdeswell, con il quale l’esecutivo guidato da Doug Ford ha tracciato un bilancio complessivo della lotta al Covid-19 negli ultimi 18 mesi e, allo stesso tempo, ha illustrato le priorità per la provincia in questi ultimi otto mesi di legislatura prima dell’appuntamento alle urne.
