TORONTO – Amazon’s largest plant in Brampton, Ontario has been shut down due to an ongoing investigation by the Peel Public Health Department. The facility’s at least 618, out of 5,000 employees have been infected with corona. As a result, all the employees have been asked to go on voluntary isolation for two weeks. (more…)

টরন্টো – পিল জনস্বাস্থ্য দপ্তরের চলমান তদন্তের কারণে কানাডার অন্টারিও প্রদেশের ব্রাম্পটনে আমাজনের বৃহৎ প্রকল্পটি বন্ধ করে দেয়া হয়েছে। কারণ, সেখানকার ৫ হাজার কর্মচারির মাঝে কমপক্ষে ৬১৭ জন করোনা আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন। ফলে সেখানকার সব কর্মচারিকে দুই সপ্তাহের স্বেচ্ছা অন্তরীণে যেতে বলা হয়েছে। (more…)

আমাদের প্রাত্যহিক জীবনের বিষয়াবলী তুলে ধরাই সমাজবিজ্ঞানের কাজ, তবে সেটা খবরের কাগজের সংবাদ কিংবা সাধারণ জ্ঞান বা গাল-গল্প নয়। সেখানে লৌকিকতাবর্জিত বা ভাঁড় গোষ্ঠীর নেতৃত্ব যেমন প্রতিভাত, তেমনি গোড়া রাজনীতিকের কাছে পৃথিবীটা দ্বৈত বিরোধীতা ছাড়া ভিন্ন কিছু নয়, যদিও উদারপন্থীদের কাছে ভিন্নতাটি দৃশ্যমান। আবার তাতে পরিবার ‘ক্ষুদে সমাজ’ হিসেবে বিবেচিত হলেও থাকে আপন রাজনীতি, অর্থনীতি, মূল্যবোধ ও সংঘাত প্রশমনের উপায়। সেজন্য সমাজবিজ্ঞান সামাজিক সম্পর্কের তত্ত্বকেই উদ্ভাবণ করে। সে কারণে কানাডায় আইন ভেঙ্গেছেন এমন একজন আইন প্রণেতার পরিণতি এ লেখার প্রতিপাদ্য। (more…)

When Dalton McGuinty was Premier of Ontario, I remember consulting with the Filipino Canadians about a study on installing a casino either in a downtown hotel or on the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) grounds along Lakeshore Avenue. During the meeting, I discussed the pros and cons of having a casino within city limits, having experienced this in my old country. (more…)

Ang pagsa nang usapan ay pag lalagay nang kasino sa gitna nang lunsod nang Toronto o sa “CNE” Kanadian Nasional Exsibision. Sa paguusap, sinabi ko ang aking matinding kong karanasan sa baga na Ito.
