Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – The idyll between Canada and immigrants is over. The numbers say it. In fact, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship says that Statistics Canada data indicate a 30% drop in the adoption of citizenship since 2001. Let’s see to what extent: in 2021, only 45.7% of permanent residents who resided in Canada from less than ten years became a citizen. A drop, compared to 60% in 2016 and 75.1% in 2001. (more…)
OTTAWA – « Aux Ukrainiens qui défendent des valeurs qui nous tiennent à cœur, nous sommes à vos côtés, non seulement par nos paroles, mais également par nos gestes. Le Canada offrira un refuge sûr à vos familles pendant que vous combattez au front dans une guerre pour défendre votre liberté dans l’intérêt du monde entier » : par ces mots, Sean Fraser (sur la photo, de son profil Twitter), ministre de l’Immigration, des Réfugiés et de la Citoyenneté, a annoncé aujourd’hui la création de l’Autorisation de voyage d’urgence Canada-Ukraine (AVUCU). L’AVUCU est un moyen spécial et accéléré d’obtenir la résidence temporaire pour les Ukrainiens qui cherchent un refuge sûr au Canada alors que la guerre se poursuit dans leur pays d’origine.
OTTAWA – “To the Ukrainians who are defending the values we hold dear, we stand with you—not only in our words, but also in our actions. Canada will offer safe haven to your families while you fight on the front lines of a war to defend your freedom to the benefit of the entire world”: with these words, Sean Fraser (in the pic, from his Twitter profile), Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced today the launch of the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). The CUAET is a special, accelerated temporary residence pathway for Ukrainians seeking safe haven in Canada while the war in their home country continues.
According to information provided by the Minister of Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship of Canada, Marco E. L. Mendicino, the path to permanent residence is just opening up for over 90,000 essential workers as well as international students who are actively contributing to Canada’s economy. (more…)
