Flamborough-Glanbrook: A stronghold for Conservative support

Along the outskirts of Hamilton is the electoral district of Flamborough-Glanbrook. It encompasses a portion of the City of Hamilton and an extensive rural area surrounding the City including parts of the Niagara Escarpment.

The area is unique in character as it covers a vast region, that is geographically diverse and home to 111,065 residents of several different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. According to the most recent data available, (2016 Census), Italians, at 12% of the population, make up the largest concentration of individuals in the region who originate from Europe.

Humber River-Black Creek: A “safe zone” for Liberal support

The constituency of Humber River-Black Creek is located at the northern edge of the Toronto city limits between the districts of York Centre and Etobicoke-North. Prior to 2015, the area was known as York West. It was changed to its current name following a riding redistribution process.

The area is comprised of a diverse population with people originating from several different ethnic backgrounds . According to Statistics Canada, in 2016 (most current data available), Italians make up a significant portion of the population, at 13%. (more…)

Ontario enhances support for new career opportunities

Thanks to improvements in key health indicators, Ontario will move into Step 3 of the province’s reopening plan on Friday. That means the easing of Covid-19 restrictions for several public health and workplace measures including capacity limits for indoor/outdoor settings. It also opens opportunity for more Ontarians to return to work.

Ontario Extending Temporary Wage Increase for Personal Support Workers

TORONTO ― The Ontario government is investing $141 million to extend the temporary wage increase for personal support workers and direct support workers in publicly funded home and community care, long-term care, public hospitals, and social services sectors. This temporary wage increase will continue until August 23, 2021, and will help stabilize, attract and retain the workforce needed to provide a high level of care during the COVID-19 pandemic. New Canadian Politics poll; a look at the Conservative Party’s challenge: growing support

The Conservative Convention began on Thursday, and an update on Conservative Party supporters and the path to victory is available at https://abacusdata.ca/conservative-party-canada-gap/.
 
Summary:

  1. The federal Liberals lead the Conservatives by four seats, with the NDP remaining unchanged.
  2. Liberals have 33 seats, Conservatives have 29, and the NDP has one.
  3. On a regional basis, we see a close three-way race in British Columbia, broad Conservative leads in the Prairies, a 13-point Liberal lead in Ontario, a 7-point Liberal lead over the PQ in Quebec, and a 21-point Liberal lead in Atlantic Canada.
