Read More in Corriere Canadese >>>

Transparency and trust, values with less weight at the TCDSB

Some of the most valued drivers of human behaviour include family, community, trust[worthiness] and education. The last two can have a significant impact on society as a whole. Families, who entrust their children to the publicly funded education system expect a level of transparency and trust[worthiness] from those responsible for delivering a quality education in a safe environment.

Overcrowded classrooms at TCDSB, tomorrow protest at Queen’s Park

TORONTO – Another protest demonstration. At 10am tomorrow the parents of the children attending the schools of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) will gather in front of Queen’s Park to express clearly and unequivocally their disappointment at the increase in the number of students per class that comes into force tomorrow. A move, this, which immediately sent the parents of the boys who already last week organized demonstrations in front of numerous elementary schools of the Catholic school board of the city into a rage: no to “chicken coop” classes, they repeated loudly, no to classes with 31 students.  (more…)

“TCDSB lays cover for questionable and contrarian behaviour against parents”

We publish a letter by Phil Hornak, a member of the TCDSB Parent Coouncils, which points out a series of issues that worry the families of students attending Catholic Schools in Toronto.

TORONTO – TCDSB staffing and contractors have been added and established to lay the cover deemed required in this less than genuine operation. The Parent Engagement Group, Integrity Commissioner and Social Media Group are excellent examples of these type of initiatives. Look and sound nice but facilitates what? How many parents are actually being reached by the schools or Board?  (more…)

Read More in Corriere Canadese >>>

TCDSB, who defends the rights of Catholics?

TORONTO – The Canadian Confederation, as a form of government, has a unique feature in its Constitution, or “corporate by-laws”. Under section 93, it ascribes to the provinces the sole jurisdiction for education. Within that section, it provides further exclusive “denominational rights” to certain citizens as a protection against the tyranny of the majority in a democratic society.  (more…)

Read More in Corriere Canadese >>>

TCDSB and Cardinal headed for another clash

TORONTO – A survey on gender and sexual orientation will be conducted among grade 9 school children at all Catholic schools in Toronto. This is what was proposed during the last meeting of the board. The Archdiocese did not like the proposal and ruled against it. Criticisms were also drawn from Teresa Pierre of the ” Parents as First Educators ” association. “While collecting student data can provide useful information, caution is needed on how this collection is carried out. Catholic schools must refrain from asking children about their sexual identity and orientation.  This is a practice that could confuse children; it raises privacy issues and concerns about parental involvement ”.

In the next edition of Corriere Canadese, we will publish a complete report on the matter.

FILIPINO-CANADIAN ON (TCDSB) TORONTO CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD.

Once, during a religious seminar I participated in, the issue of Filipino parents sending their children came into focus. I admit, having been involved in the media for most of my Canadian life, this issue never came up in my front burner. I have always regarded it as a given in the Filipino immigrants’ life to send their child or children to a Catholic school. And I assumed that Canadians knew the Catholic background of the Philippines. (more…)
