Italian and Indigenous cuisine together: interview with Theresa Contois (and the Native’s recipe for bison stew)

VANCOUVER – A “culinary” bridge between the Italian and Indigenous communities: the idea comes from Apci Canada, the Professional Association of Italian Chefs chaired by Chef Giovanni Trigona, an Italian in Vancouver, British Columbia, who is currently launching a collaboration with fellow Chef Theresa Contois, a Native of the Long Plain First Nation in Manitoba. A friendship destined to lay the foundations for a series of initiatives that will see the collaboration of Italian and Native chefs for the first time in history (in the pic above, Giovanni and Theresa).

Covid-19, Del Duca writes to Ford: “Let’s work together for the people of Ontario”

TORONTO – “Ontario’s Covid-19 numbers are starting to be worrying and schools will shortly reopen: it’s time we all unite and work together for the people of Ontario”: the appeal is from Steven Del Duca (in the pic above, from his Twitter profile), Ontario Liberal Party’s leader, in a letter sent to premier Doug Ford and all the majority and opposition political parties and to representatives of associations of doctors, nurses, teachers and public employees and trade unions.  (more…)

Mary Simon, first governor Inuk: “Together we will build a fairer society”

OTTAWA – Senate Chamber: an elder Inuk lights the qulliq, the traditional Inuit lamp that represents the light and warmth of family and community. And the Aboriginal Mary Simon, 73, “accompanied” in the Senate by the rhythm of a group of Inuit percussionists, after walking the red carpet to the applause, pronounces her first words: “I am honored, honored and ready to be the Canada’s first indigenous Governor-General”. Together works better for Mexico and Canada

The Mexican Secretary of Economy Tatiana Clouthier virtually visited Canada this Monday, June 7, the fifth most important commercial partner of Mexico. He spoke with Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade of Canada, with Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, as well as with Canadian businessmen about issues related to the North American Free Trade Agreement. North, which is abbreviated CUSMA, TMEC and USMCA. (more…)
