Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. TORONTO – That in the midst of the Omicron wave absence rates in schools would be high was to be expected. The numbers, made public today, did nothing but confirm the high percentage of absences among both students and teachers. Of the 3,451 Ontario schools for which data are available, 337 reported a 30% absence rate last Friday, 111 recorded an absence rate of more than 50%.

TORONTO – The total number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 in Ontario falls, but the number of victims remains high: today 56 were registered (a boy under the age of 19 also died during the weekend in Toronto), bringing the total deaths in Ontario, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 10,968. TORONTO – Students from the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) returned to class today. After taking online classes for two weeks, Monday was supposed to be the day of the big comeback but a massive winter storm forced them to stay home for another two days. The reopening of schools took place – said the TDSB – following the “significant progress” that the city has made in clearing the main roads and secondary roads.
