It will be easier for immigrants to work in their professions

TORONTO – Make it easier for foreign workers to find employment that reflects their professional field. This is the objective of a project presented today in Queen’s Park by the Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton, which if it were to be approved would eliminate the requirement – requested by 23 trade associations – for which a given foreign worker must have work experience in Canada before having his professional qualification equalized. The measure specifically illustrates different job categories that will be affected including architects, engineers, teachers, social workers and accountants.  (more…)

TTC Ride Guide features work of Indigenous Que Rock

TTC customers who pick up a copy of the TTC Ride Guide this summer may notice a special illustration on the cover (in the pic above, credits TTC). In recognition of National Indigenous History Month, the cover features artwork from Nipissing-born, Toronto-based Anishinaabe artist: Manitou Nemeen (Que Rock) and depicts the teachings of the Anishinaabe Medicine Wheel. TTC says completion of work between St. George and St. Andrew allows to eliminate up to 100 future weekend closures

The Toronto Transit Commission said in a news release (June 4) that work accomplished during the three 10-day shutdowns will allow the TTC to eliminate between 75-100 planned weekend closures over the next few years as well as eliminate the need to bypass Museum and Queen’s Park stations for up to two years. “Living to work” can have fatal risks

TORONTO – A growing body of data suggests that overtime and long working hours adversely affect the health and well-being of workers.  A new global study finds working more than 55 hours per week increases a person’s risk of stroke and heart disease.

“Living to work” can have fatal risks

A growing body of data suggests that overtime and long working hours adversely affect the health and well-being of workers. A new global study finds working more than 55 hours per week increases a persons risk of stroke and heart disease.

According to a systematic analysis from the World Health Organization and International Labour Organization (WHO/ILO), latest estimates suggest long working hours killed three quarters of a million people in 2016, up 29% from 2000.

Cable car crashed in Italy: the safety brake did not work

VERBANIA – It was supposed to be the Sunday of the restart, for Italy, after months of lockdowns and restrictions, but it will remain in the memory of the Italians as a tragic Sunday: yesterday in Piemonte, on mount Mottarone in Verbania, a cable car crashed, making a flight twenty meters and rolling downstream until it ends its death race against some trees. Fourteen victims and only one survivor: a 5-year-old boy who is admitted to the hospital in Turin on a reserved prognosis. (more…)
