Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of April 23, 2022, at 6:15pm EST.

On Saturday, health officials in Italy logged 70,520 new infections, pushing the total number of confirmed positive cases passed 16.0 million. Of the cumulative total number of cases 91.3% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, authorities have reported 143 Covid-related deaths for a total of 162,609 fatalities attributable to Covid-19.

Daily update of Ontario’s Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign

With the largest vaccination campaign underway, the province has administered more than 32.5 million doses into the arms of Ontarians. According to data last updated on April 23, numbers released by the Ministry of Health show health officials administered 35,549 vaccine doses on Friday, down from 36,134 doses the day prior.

Pandemic’s highest number of classes affected by staff absences at TDSB on Friday

TORONTO – After Ontario ended, on March 21, mandatory masking in indoor public spaces, including classrooms, on Friday about 30 out of 583 TDSB schools reported classes that shifted to remote asynchronous learning, estimated to be the highest number of classes affected by staff absences in a single day during the pandemic.
