Gates: “Governments
unprepared for the pandemic”

Marzio Pelù, February 21, 2021August 25, 2023

[GTranslate]ROME – “Our Governments have not prepared us. They have not looked forward, they have not done the things that would have made the pandemic a secondary event”: so Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, interviewed in connection from Seattle on the Italian television program “Che tempo che fa”, where he intervened to present his book “Climate. How to avoid a disaster – Today’s solutions, tomorrow’s challenges”, released simultaneously worldwide on February 16 in over 35 countries.

Bill Gates, interviewed by Fabio Fazio (in the photo, during the interview), compared the health emergency to that for climate change: “The pandemic is like the climate – said Gates in the interview aired on RaiTre – , our governments have not prepared us, they have not looked ahead. They have not done the things that would have made the pandemic a minor event. It is difficult to do the same with the climate. The effects of climate change are getting worse every year, they will be seen over time. We need to look ahead, act now. With the climate we do not need a solution like the vaccine for the pandemic, we need discoveries, to reduce CO2 emissions” (watch the video with his statements: Bill Gates on “Che tempo che fa”).

“We can innovate – continued Gates -, we can save the whole world and not just the rich countries. Take a green approach, please. Not just for transport. It takes a lot of innovation, we don’t have a lot of time. Emissions continue to rise. If we really want to see a notable decline, we have to change quickly”.

And he added: “Most industrial sectors are far behind the automotive, concrete, steel or aircraft fuel sectors. At the moment you pay more for green products”.

“Anyone who thinks it is easy – concluded the founder of Microsoft – must think that probably does not take into consideration what needs to be changed. But it’s not impossible. Environmentalism and the climate are very important issues”.
