Is a Blind Pimple really No Biggie?

In March 2020, “Penelope” developed a pimple after working out at the gym.  Then the pandemic hit.  And for over a year like countless others, she would experience “Maskne” (https://hypebae.com/2021/5/maskne-acne-face-mask-causes-treatments-how-to-prevent-dermatologist-tips-products) – acne breakouts from having to wear a face mask for hours on end.  Penelope’s pimple never went away, nor did it ever evolve.  But after a year of living with that bump on her face, Penelope knew there was something wrong.

Mukha Baybi

“Baby Faces”

The other day, I heard a troubling story.  A grandfather went to visit his 18-month-old grandchild.  He stood by the door and wore his mask all throughout.  The minute he brought his mask down to his chin to drink from a glass of water, the 18-month-old cried out in terror.  It was the first time he had seen his grandfather without a mask.  In the past year, the baby had been accustomed to seeing people only with masks on.

Taon Retirado

At What Age Would You be Retiring?

Filipino elderly celebrating her 80th birthday in the Philippines.

The author Sara Gruen in “Water for Elephants” wrote, “Keeping up the appearance of having your marbles is hard work, but important”.

Whoever coined the phrase “Aging is a gift” may still have all his marbles, so to speak, but any elderly, junior or senior, will agree with me when I say that keeping up appearances to possess these marbles is oftentimes a monumental task for the person.
