Here’s the vehicle most… desired by thieves in Canada

Marzio Pelù, November 18, 2025

TORONTO – According to a new report by the Equité Association, the Toyota RAV4 SUV was the most stolen vehicle in Canada in 2024. The organization, a national agency for the prevention of insurance crime and fraud, released its annual report today, revealing that the RAV4 (pictured above, from the Toyota website) was indeed crowned the “winner” in 2024, with 2,080 thefts last year alone.

““Newer SUV models, particularly those with vulnerabilities in their keyless entry systems, remain prime targets for sophisticated criminal networks nationwide, especially in Quebec and Ontario” the report notes.

The second-most stolen vehicle in Canada in 2024 was a truck, the Dodge Ram 1500 Series, with 2,018 thefts, while in third place was another SUV, the Honda CR-V, with 1,911 thefts, and just this vehicle turns out to be the most stolen overall in the province of Ontario: analyzing the provincial data, in fact, we note that in Ontario, the Honda CR-V is in first place with 1,309 thefts, while in second place, as at the national level, is the Dodge Ram 1500 Series “truck” with 1,159 thefts in Ontario; in second place, also in Ontario, is a car, the Honda Civic, with 1,113 thefts in 2024.

“While we see early positive signs of progress, auto theft remains a national issue that has become a significant funding source for organized crime groups. Despite an overall 19 (per cent) decrease nationwide, auto theft continues to cost Canadians over $1 billion in losses each year” Terri O’Brien, president and CEO of Équité Association, said in a written statement, according to CP24.
