Spike in hospitalizations: 276 more in 24 hours in Ontario, almost two thousand in Quebec

TORONTO – Strong, sudden surge in Covid hospitalizations in Ontario: from 1,090 hospitalized on Monday to 1,366 today (+276). The last time the hospitalization count had exceeded that figure dates back to last February 16 when, during the first wave of Omicron (and fifth of the pandemic), the beds occupied by patients with the virus were 1,403. The number of people admitted to intensive care has also increased: from 184 to 190 in 24 hours.  (more…)

Ontario, 10 deaths and 4 thousand more active cases. Hospitalizations are growing in almost all provinces: the data

TORONTO – The sixth wave of Covid-19 is there, and it shows. Today, Ontario recorded another 10 deaths, bringing the total in the province, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,470. On the other hand, the updated data on hospitalizations due – a provincial health official said – to a scheduled maintenance of the computer systems are not available. But Saturday’s figure is enough to make it clear that the Omicron BA.2 variant is making the numbers rise with impressive speed: 855 people admitted to hospitals in the province, compared to 807 last Thursday and, above all, to 553 of just one week ago (March 28).  (more…)

The virus circulates more: almost 20 thousand active cases in Ontario

TORONTO – Hospitalizations from and with Covid-19 in Ontario continue to grow: today in the province’s hospitals there were 778 people, down from 790 yesterday, even a sharp increase compared to 611 a week ago. 165 patients in intensive care (92 with ventilators to breathe), the same number as yesterday. As for infections, 2,814 were recorded today but, due to the limitation of texts to “at risk” categories only, according to experts that the real number of infections could be about 10 times that figure.  (more…)

Almost 800 hospitalized: “Ontario in the sixth wave”

TORONTO – Ontario is in the sixth wave of the pandemic. An epidemiologist, Dr. Isaac Bogoch, specialist in infectious diseases, says so, but above all the numbers seem to say it: in a week, hospitalizations have increased by 23% and at the moment there are 790 patients with Covid-19 present in the hospitals of the province, compared to 655 just 24 hours earlier and 639 a week ago.  (more…)

Covid in Ontario, another 19 dead. The real number of active cases in Quebec: almost 100K

TORONTO – Slight increase in Covid hospitalizations today in Ontario. 1,106 people in hospital, compared to 1,038 yesterday. 319 in ICU, same number on Tuesday. However, the percentage of those in hospital for the virus and not for other pathologies falls: 49% for ordinary Covid wards, 77.5% for intensive care.  (more…)

Covid in Ontario, positivity almost doubled in seven days. More than 1.700 cases in Quebec

TORONTO – Over 1,400 new cases of Covid-19 and another 5 deaths related to the virus, today, in Ontario: the new infections are 1,429, down from 1,536 but up from 928 a week ago. With the increase in the number of cases in the last month, the seven-day moving average continues to rise and reaches 1,400 (a week ago it was 975): it is the highest average since last May 27 when it was 1,441. The positivity rate also reaches a maximum never seen in almost seven months: with 33,400 tests processed it is now at 6.6%, the highest since last May 18 when it was 7.6% (a week ago it was at 3.8 %: almost doubled in seven days).  (more…)

Surge of infections: almost a thousand cases in Ontario, 1,000 new daily infections in Quebec in the weekend

TORONTO – Despite the snow has whitened everything, it was a black weekend in Ontario on the Covid front. Today 964 new cases were registered, the highest number reported in a single day since last May 30, when 1,033 cases were detected. But Saturday and Friday wasn’t better, with – respectively – 854 and 927 infections. Now the seven-day moving average is 760, last week it was 645. And the positivity rate also rises: with 29,692 tests processed in the last 24 hours and 964 cases detected, it is now 3.2%.  (more…)

Ontario: over 500 infections, almost all young. 480 cases in Quebec, 356 not fully vaccinated

TORONTO – Ontario remains between 500 and 600 new daily cases of Covid-19: 573 Friday, 654 Saturday and 535 Sunday (latest figure released). Ontario’s seven-day moving average is now 537, down from last week when it was 596. 29,755 tests were carried out on Sunday: the positivity rate in the province stood at 1.8 percent. There are also two new deaths that bring the total in the province, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 9,790.  (more…)

Schools in Ontario, infections skyrocket to almost 600

TORONTO – It is alarming. With the beginning of the school year, Covid infections are skyrocketed, which with the last 109 today have abundantly exceeded 500. There are 98 cases among students attending schools in Ontario, 8 among teachers and 3 non-teaching staff members infected with the Delta variant of the virus, which bring infections to 585.  (more…)

Back-to-school: TDSB is almost ready, TCDSB who knows

TORONTO – The guidelines outlined by Ontario to deal with Covid in the province’s public schools are not enough. Dissatisfied with the protocols, which will be implemented with the start of the new school year, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has decided to do it itself and has drawn up a series of guidelines. Everything is silent, however, as far as the Toronto Catholic District School Board is concerned: the return to school is still shrouded in mystery. (more…)

Canada donates almost 18 million vaccines to the poorest countries

Canada is donating 17.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine to help immunize people in low- and middle-income countries. This was announced by the Minister for International Development Karina Gould and the Minister of Public Services and Procurement Anita Anand: the doses, they said, are part of the federal government’s advance purchase agreement with the company and will be distributed through COVAX. I don’t think anyone is surprised by strange phone calls with advertising on home and cell phones. Where can callers get the data from? How about telephone numbers and email addresses? Home addresses with surnames and business addresses with company names can be used for a variety of purposes. In combination with the internet black market – the dark internet, the apparent data leak can be very dangerous. (more…)
