Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities

President of the Republic leaves a message of gratitude and hope to the Portuguese Diaspora. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who is in the Autonomous Region of Madeira for the June 10th commemorations, regrets once again that the pandemic is postponing “fraternal coexistence with all compatriots and Portuguese descendants who live and work outside physical borders of Portugal, but they are part of our spiritual frontiers”. Toronto extends cancellation of major festivals and summer events until Labour Day

Some of Toronto’s major summer festivals, including the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), have been canceled for the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The slap in the face came on Friday (May 14), after the city announced that is extending the cancellation of in-person City-led and City-permitted outdoor events to September 6. (more…)

TORONTO – Sunday 9 May 2021 is Mother’s Day, a recurrence that is widespread all over the world. While the decision to dedicate a day to mothers is common to many countries, the choice of the day in question is different, for an event that is celebrated at a different time of the year depending on where you are. Today is celebrated the World Portuguese Language Day

Commemoration encompasses a set of more than 150 activities in 44 countries

The celebrations of World Portuguese Language Day this Wednesday are being coordinated by Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, and cover the geographic dimensions, research, translation, connection to other arts and mobilization of populations in a group more than 150 activities in 44 countries.

Egyptian Embassy celebrates the International Francophonie Day

Egypt’s ambassador to Canada, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said in statements: “This initiative comes within the framework of the existing cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture, as the Ministry of Culture recently provided the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a number of classic and modern Egyptian films that have been translated into French to be used on the occasion of the International Francophonie Day”.
The virtual celebration will be attended by embassies of the member states of the Francophone Organization, government officials, MPs, Canadian provincial governments, and Egyptian embassy friends from the Canadian community, starting from Friday until the end of the celebration of the International Francophonie Day.
