Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – That may sound harsh. It is probably too complementary. With all due respect to the process and the individuals (54? and counting) offering to replace the retired, “self-disgraced” former mayor, and win the confidence of the public is never easy. Especially in an election with geographic boundaries overlapping twenty-five federal/provincial boundaries – without the galvanizing factors of Party, Leader, and Finances.
TORONTO – The municipalities of Ontario fear that the new housing legislation adopted by the Province could unload excessive burdens on the municipalities themselves and on taxpayers. The bill presented Tuesday by Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark, would, in fact, reduce and / or exempt from taxes that builders would have to pay in order to build. TORONTO – “It will be a difficult period for the Canadian economy”. Federal Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland (in the pic above, from her Facebook page), issued a warning: the next few months will not be good as the Bank of Canada’s recent rate hikes to tame (according to the bank itself) skyrocketing inflation will increase borrowing costs for businesses and consumers, which will send shockwaves throughout the economy, Freeland said, effectively echoing a concept that many economists have been arguing for months. TORONTO – Since Monday, Ontario residents have been able to shop, watch a movie and watch a hockey game without wearing a mask for the first time in about a year and a half. The province has in fact revoked the obligation of this personal protective equipment in most public spaces.
