Thank people who stay true to their word

TORONTO – Last week, Corriere Canadese interviewed five York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) trustees: Rose Cantisano, Dino Giuliani, Maria Iafrate, Maria Marchese and Domenic Mazzotta. All of them of Italian background, although only one was born outside of Canada. They had had enough of the not-so-subtle, often overt, discrimination to which they were being subjected because of their “ethnicity”.

Airports in Canada, Covid-tests suspended for vaccinated people

TORONTO – After countless hardships and protests, the federal government turns around and removes – until June 30 – random Covid-tests for vaccinated vaccinated at airports. It was announced on Friday by the Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra. Only unvaccinated travelers will still be “tested” at airports. Then, starting from July, all Covid-tests will be carried out outside the airports.  (more…)

Ontario, the number of vaccinated infected people increases

TORONTO – The trend of infections in Ontario is stable. Today, provincial health officials reported 454 new cases of Covid-19 and 9 deaths which bring the total, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 9,912. The count of infections is therefore in line with those of the past few days: 441 Tuesday and 480 Monday. 636, however, the cases on Sunday. Ontario’s seven-day moving average is now 502, still high from last week (379). With 33,364 tests processed in the last 24 hours, the positive rate in the province now stands at around 1.8%.  (more…)

Covid: booster for vulnerable people but Ford won’t mandate vaccines for health-care workers

TORONTO – The long wait is over. The Ontario government has decided that due to concerns about staff shortages in hospitals, it will not make vaccination mandatory for health-care workers. This was announced today by Prime Minister Ford himself, sparking endless controversy: both the Ontario Science Table and doctors and experts in the field had asked to make the vaccine mandatory for health workers. “The issue is complex. After reviewing the situation our government decided to maintain its flexible approach by leaving the decision to individual hospitals,” he said.  (more…)
