Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. CNMNG aims to gather news researched and written by a corps of Canadian-based journalists/writers from the country’s multilingual community groups. The overall goal is to inform, analyze and critique the issues of the day in a professional manner and to provide that to publishers and editors active in the ethnocultural-multilingual press and media whose experience provides them with a perspective that is sensitive to news relevant to their own language group.
TORONTO – Decisive leap forward in Covid hospitalizations in Ontario: from 1,301 patients present in hospitals yesterday to 1,486 today. And the number of patients in intensive care with the virus is also growing, from 202 to 206. The total number of hospitalized patients is the highest since last February 15, when there were 1,550. TORONTO – New leap forward in hospitalizations today in Ontario: 1,126 people in hospital with Covid-19, compared to 1,074 just 24 hours earlier. The last time the count was so high was on February 19, when the number of inpatients was 1,191. On the other hand, the number of patients in intensive care fell, from 168 yesterday to 159 today. But the number of pandemic deaths remains high: another 16 today, bringing the total in Ontario from the beginning to 12,527. (more…)
TORONTO – New surge in Covid-19 cases in Ontario, after two days of “respite”: today 4,383 were recorded in the province, the highest daily count since the end of April. The last time Ontario had reported more than 4,383 new cases in a single day was in fact on April 23, when officials found 4,505. (more…)
The Covid-19 pandemic has presented challenges for Ontario’s critical care system. As infections trend upward, the scientific community cautions that hospital admissions will likely climb in the weeks to come.
On December 6, the Ministry of Health reported 168 patients in the province’s Intensive Care Units (ICU) due to Covid-related critical illness. That is the highest number of Covid-related ICU patients in more than two months, when the number reached 171 Covid ICU patients on September 30.
TORONTO – Despite the snow has whitened everything, it was a black weekend in Ontario on the Covid front. Today 964 new cases were registered, the highest number reported in a single day since last May 30, when 1,033 cases were detected. But Saturday and Friday wasn’t better, with – respectively – 854 and 927 infections. Now the seven-day moving average is 760, last week it was 645. And the positivity rate also rises: with 29,692 tests processed in the last 24 hours and 964 cases detected, it is now 3.2%. (more…)
