Covid-19: cases drop in Ontario, surge in Quebec

TORONTO – Still a slight decline in infections in Ontario which today recorded 519, against 613 on Tuesday, 627 on Monday, 741 on Sunday and 728 on Saturday. Another 7 deaths bringing the total deaths in Ontario, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 9,981. The seven-day moving average of new cases is now at 686, still very high from last week when it was at 587. Ontario laboratories processed nearly 30,100 tests today, producing a positive rate of 2.5%, unchanged from a week ago. 

Of the infections recorded today, 293 were detected in unvaccinated individuals, 14 partially vaccinated, 237 fully vaccinated and 47 with an unknown vaccination status. Currently, 89 percent of Ontarians over the age of 12 (for those under 12, the vaccination began just this week) and more have received one dose of the vaccine and 86 percent have received two doses and are considered fully vaccinated. Another 664 people have recovered in the last 24 hours: the active (known) cases throughout the province are now 5,407.

As for the territorial distribution of today’s infections, the health units that today reported the largest number of new species could be Toronto (74), Windsor-Essex (63), Simcoe Muskoka (60), York Region (48) and Peel region (43). Front-hospitals: There are currently 289 people with the virus in Ontario hospitals and 137 in intensive care units: of the latter, 123 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status while 14 are fully vaccinated. Since the start of the pandemic, they have been in Ontario 613,522 laboratory confirmed cases and 598,134 recoveries were recorded.

Spike in infections in Quebec which today recorded 882 new cases of coronavirus, the largest increase in a day since mid-September. 26,921 tests analyzed, for a positive rate of 2.6%. Hospitalizations are also on the rise, with 27 people entering treatment within 24 hours. Now 211 people are hospitalized: 46 are in intensive care.

The province also recorded 1 death: the total since the beginning of the pandemic therefore rises to 11,566. 6,703 active and known cases in Quebec. Since the start of the pandemic, 441,344 Quebecers have contracted Covid-19 and 423,075 have recovered. Of Quebecers 12 years and older, 88% are fully vaccinated and 91% have received at least one dose.
