Covid-19, today 865 cases in Ontario: never so many in three months

TORONTO – It is necessary to go back until June 4th to find a bulletin of the daily cases of Covid-19 in Ontario that reports more than 850 infections: then the cases were 914. Today, in Ontario, we have not reached at that figure but we are close to it: 865 new infections in twenty-four hours, just now that the provincial health officials have been experiencing fewer than 700 infections for three days.  (more…)

Ontario, cases continue to rise: today nearly 700

TORONTO – The escalation continues: after the 486 cases on Tuesday and 660 on Wednesday, Ontario today recorded 678 new cases of Covid-19, of which 395 were found in unvaccinated people, 82 in partially vaccinated people and 141 in people fully vaccinated (for the remaining people the vaccination status is unknown). Of the new cases, 144 were recorded in Toronto, 102 in the Peel region, 97 in the York region, 78 in Windsor-Essex and 51 in the Durham region. All other local health units reported fewer than 50 new cases.  (more…)

Ontario: cases down today, but thousands of tests are missing

TORONTO – Less infections, but also fewer tests to detect them. Ontario recorded 486 new cases of Covid-19 today, compared to 639 on Monday: a decline, therefore, after more than 600 cases had always been recorded in the last few days. However, the provincial government has announced that 17,369 tests have been processed in the last 24 hours (compared to 20,000 on Monday and 23,075 on Sunday) and that there is a backlog of 11,370 tests awaiting results. The positivity therefore remains high, at 3%. Last week it was 2.6%.  (more…)

Ontario, the Covid “swing” returns to descend: 348 new cases today

TORONTO – The Covid “swing” does not stop: after more than 500 infections every 24 hours in the last few days, Ontario recorded “only” 348 new cases of coronavirus today, with a significant decrease compared to 526 on Monday and 511 on Sunday . It is Ontario’s first day of sub-500 cases since August 11, when 324 new cases were detected. But there are ten deaths (zero on Monday), even if six were revealed through an ongoing review of deaths during the pandemic.  (more…)

Ontario, 526 new cases today: only 350 are not vaccinated

TORONTO – There are now more than 500 new cases of Covid-19 in Ontario every day: today, Ontario health officials reported 526, after 511 on Sunday, 578 on Saturday, 510 on Friday and 513 in Thursday. Prior to Thursday, the province had not reported more than 500 cases in 24 hours since June 13, when 530 new cases had been registered. The seven-day average of Ontario is now 469, compared to 283 daily infections last week.  (more…)

Let’s Start Building Today!

When COVID-19 has passed and life resumes to normal, the Canadian economy is unlikely to grow without further stimulus. At that point, the federal government may resort to typical stimulus tactics during recessions of infrastructure funding. I believe this is Canada’s big opportunity to build large infrastructure projects such as pipelines and public transit, but it should also be bold and fund the construction of new hospitals and schools. And with the partial relaxation of the restrictive measures, the order to “stay at home” in both Toronto and the Peel Region has also been lifted. “Toronto Public Health and Peel Public Health are making progress, but as their case rates remain high, they will return to the gray level for at least two weeks when the situation is revalued,” Premier Doug Ford said Friday. “This is not a return to normality – added Health Minister Christine Elliott, extinguishing enthusiasm – while we continue to vaccinate other Ontario residents, it remains essential for everyone to continue to follow public health measures and stay at home as much as possible to protect themselves, loved ones and their communities.” (more…)
