Spike in hospitalizations: 276 more in 24 hours in Ontario, almost two thousand in Quebec

TORONTO – Strong, sudden surge in Covid hospitalizations in Ontario: from 1,090 hospitalized on Monday to 1,366 today (+276). The last time the hospitalization count had exceeded that figure dates back to last February 16 when, during the first wave of Omicron (and fifth of the pandemic), the beds occupied by patients with the virus were 1,403. The number of people admitted to intensive care has also increased: from 184 to 190 in 24 hours.  (more…)

Ontario, 64 dead. Two years ago the first case. Quebec announces slow reopening

TORONTO – Exactly two years ago, on January 25, 2020, the first case of Covid-19 in Canada was identified at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Since then, the virus has “pulled straight” despite protective gear, restrictions and even vaccines. Today, the second sad “anniversary” of Covid-19 in Canada, another 64 deaths were recorded in Ontario, bringing the total, from that fateful day that marked the beginning of the pandemic in Canada, to 11,068. Covid in Ontario, over ten thousand active cases. Quebec close to two thousand a day, Alberta breathes

TORONTO – The surge in infections already recorded last week in Ontario shows no sign of decreasing: today the province reported 1,476 new cases of Covid-19 and 8 deaths. Infections were 1,607 on Saturday (the high number in seven months) and on Friday 1,452. The seven-day moving average of daily cases is now 1,236 (Saturday it was 1,194, a week ago 761).  (more…)
