The virus spreads: more than 1,800 Covid-cases in Ontario and 2,386 in Quebec

TORONTO – The virus spreads.  Ontario today reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in more than six months: 1,808. To count more in just 24 hours, we have to go back to last May 21, when the new infections in one day were 1,890. Not only that: the number of active cases has increased by about 50% in a week: seven days ago they were 8,351, now they are 12,666.  (more…)

Ontario, a thousand Covid-cases a day over the weekend

TORONTO – Weekend to forget in Ontario: for the third consecutive day, the province has in fact recorded over 1,000 new cases of Covid-19, with the count of infections reaching the highest level since the end of May. The provincial health officials in fact detected 1,184 infections today, compared to 1,053 on Saturday and 1,031 on Friday. We have to go back to 28 May to find a greater number of cases than today: at that time, the infections had been 1,273.  (more…)

Ontario, more tests and fewer Covid-cases: under 300

TORONTO – More tests and fewer cases: what emerges from today’s data on the progress of the pandemic in Ontario is a good sign. 269 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded, the lowest number since last August 5 (213). Today is also the fourth consecutive day of decline: Friday 492, Saturday 373, Sunday 370 and Monday 326 out of 18,397 tests processed against 21,800 today: the positivity rate is 1.5%. The noticeable daily drop in infections also lowered the seven-day moving average to 364 from 407 a week ago. (more…)

Ontario: 417 new Covid-cases but the positivity rate drops

TORONTO – Covid-19 in Ontario: 417 new cases today, a slight increase compared to the previous day (306) but also below the seven-day average. In addition, 35,421 tests were processed in the previous 24 hours (and another 18,914 are being processed), while yesterday there were far fewer: 23,219. The positivity to the test, therefore, drops to 1.5%. Yesterday (and last week) it was 1.7%.  (more…)

Ontario, 30% of new Covid-cases are in schools. Contagions in polling stations

TORONTO – Ontario today recorded another 158 cases of Covid-19 in public schools: 20 more than on the same day last week. 135 of the cases were detected in students and 22 in staff members, while the attribution of another case was not disclosed. There are now 1,627 known active cases of Covid-19 associated with the public school system, accounting for approximately 30% of all known active cases in Ontario.  (more…)
