Ontario: infections still down, no deaths

TORONTO – 326 new cases of Covid-19 and no new deaths. Data even better than yesterday’s for Ontario where on Sunday the infections had been 370 and on Saturday 373. With 18,397 tests processed in the past 24 hours, provincial health officials report a provincial-level positivity rate of 1.6%, down slightly from last week’s 1.8%. The seven-day moving average of new cases has now dropped to 372 from 416 on Monday.  (more…)

Ontario, infections are still going down: 306

TORONTO – Covid-19, the positive trend continues in Ontario. today 306 new cases were recorded (out of 23,219 tests processed), a sharp decline compared to 390 on Tuesday, 458 on Monday, 535 on Sunday and 654 on Saturday. It is therefore the fifth consecutive day of decreases in the daily case count and today is also the lowest number of new daily infections since last August 5, when 213 cases were recorded.  (more…)

Ontario and Quebec, infections continue to go down

TORONTO – Contagions still decreasing in Ontario: just over 500 were recorded today, about 100 less than those confirmed last Monday. In fact, provincial health officials today detected 511 new infections from Covid-19, down from 580 on Sunday and 613 a week ago. The seven-day moving average of new cases continues to decline, dropping to 582 from 621 last Monday. With 23,667 tests processed in the last 24 hours, the provincial level of positivity is 2%, exactly like Sunday when 32,220 were analyzed.  (more…)

Ontario and Quebec, new Covid-19 cases down today

TORONTO – The number of new cases in Ontario continues to decrease: today 610, down from 715 on Sunday, although up from 600 a week ago. The seven-day moving average of new infections is now 711, down four units from last Monday and, with 23,864 tests processed in the past 24 hours (Sunday was 29,906), the provincial-level positivity rate is now 2.7%, down from 3.1% last Monday.  (more…)

Ontario: cases down today, but thousands of tests are missing

TORONTO – Less infections, but also fewer tests to detect them. Ontario recorded 486 new cases of Covid-19 today, compared to 639 on Monday: a decline, therefore, after more than 600 cases had always been recorded in the last few days. However, the provincial government has announced that 17,369 tests have been processed in the last 24 hours (compared to 20,000 on Monday and 23,075 on Sunday) and that there is a backlog of 11,370 tests awaiting results. The positivity therefore remains high, at 3%. Last week it was 2.6%.  (more…)

Canada is preparing to welcome 20,000 Afghans but shut down its embassy in Kabul

OTTAWA – Canada will be a safe haven for more than 20,000 Afghans in a “vulnerable condition”: the Minister of Immigration, Marco Mendicino, announced it on Friday during a press conference with Foreign Minister Marc Garneau, Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan and the Minister of Women Maryam Monsef. A commitment that adds to the initiative put in place for previous thousands of Afghans who have worked for the Canadian government as interpreters and employees of the embassy.  (more…)

What justification makes VOA to shut down its Bangla radio broadcast service?

Sadly the largest U.S. international broadcaster, Voice of America (VOA) which provides news and information in 45 languages to an estimated audience of more than 280 million people weekly through its satellite, cable, FM and MW on a network of more than 2,500 affiliate stations since 1942, has shut down its most enriched Bangla radio broadcast service in a press release distributed on July 13, 2021.
